A place where the Spirit of God wants to dwell
We are a non-denominational Spirit-filled and Spirit-led church that is committed to expository biblical teaching. The name "Second City" comes from Hebrews 13:14 which says, "For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come." We believe that Jesus is coming soon and that creates an urgency in this hour to prepare the Bride of Christ for her Bridegroom. We believe that the Church has been experiencing a cosmic sized shift since 2020. The covid pandemic brought with it a holy separation that has ushered in a new wave of revival. Over the past five years, Jesus Christ has been separating out the faithful remnant. He is purifying and refining for himself a bride that will soon stand before Him without blemish. As such, we believe the world doesn't need another stagnant church looking to fill seating capacity, but a new wave of undignified worship and revival. "Since the days of John the Baptist, the kingdom of Heaven has been forcefully advancing, and the violent take it by force." -Matthew 11:12. We, as the global church, are in this season again where God is commissioning and baptizing His people to do radical work for the kingdom and we believe that Roanoke will not just be a host but a sending agent of that work. So get gripped for kingdom work and join us in getting Roanoke ready because Jesus is coming!
Our Founder
In the summer of 2017, I found myself on a summer-long missions' project through a local church not knowing that I was actually an unbeliever. After a radical encounter with the Father in the middle of the Great Pyrenees mountains of Catalonia, Spain, I came to faith and was baptized in water the following month. It was during that trip that God put a direct call on my life to plant a church named Second City. For the next seven years, I would steward that promise from God not knowing where or when, just that He was faithful to bring it to fruition. What was supposed to be a temporary move to Roanoke, VA, God would later reveal as the home of Second City in early 2024. I have no platform, influence or formal training, but rather a hunger + boldness to take Jesus at His word and believe for a harvest of souls and outpouring of the Spirit. Second City has been cultivated in the wilderness. It is through walking deep in obscurity with God and allowing His Spirit to do a refining work in me, that I have been able to pioneer, trailblaze and lay the foundation of this historic church plant.
